An introduction to the fundamentals of yoga including the principles of internal form, breath, and core, Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A), and beginner standing poses, forward bends, backbends and inversions.

For beginners and those blessed with stiffness.

A good preparation for Primary Level 1.

Hips Hams Core – Find exactly what and where your core is. Learn how to breath into and from it, engage it, and work from it without clenching or hardening, without shortening and tightening muscles ... and strengthen it in the process. We combine this with exercises, sometimes subtle, sometimes strong, to release and strengthen hips and hamstrings. This class can be hard work at times, but is accessible to all levels in terms of posture or exercise difficulty. Regular attendance will yield a dramatic increase in strength, stamina, integration and mobility.

Hips Hams Better Backs – this one is for folks with back and hip issues. It is a more subtle approach to releasing tensions, accessing movement, stabilizing and strengthening core, joints and back. It incorporates the principles, breathing, core awareness and subtle energies of yoga. We focus on a series that you can take home with you and will help you heal your back.

Hips +

A slow-paced, relaxing class with  lots of supported poses and passive openers but also comprehensive all-over stretching of shoulders, spine, hips, hamstrings, ribs, feet, with gentle guidance on breath, alignment and core. Can include supported inversions and some very basic pranayama (breathing).

Starts at 10:30 am on Sundays so you can have a leisurely morning and put some yoga goodness into your day, and still have plenty of Sunday left.

For all levels.

Level 1 – This class assumes some familiarity with breath and Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A), although it does begin with a review of these. We continue to advance understanding of breath, core, awareness of internal form, change and alignment to release stress, build strength and flexibility, and correct habitual tension and mis-alignment. We explore Surya Namaskar B, the standing and finishing poses of the Ashtanga Primary Series, beginner backbends, beginner inversions and finishing poses.

Level 1

Flow/Resto’ All LevelsA good class for all to add to their weekly routine. Deepen your understanding of your body, the somatic experience of yoga, and the poses of your progressive classes. Work at your level but experience a new variety of “research” poses and sequences. Integrate the principles of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga – ujjayi breath, internal form, and bandhas or core energy. For all levels.

Level 2 - This class assumes familiarity with the poses, order and breath of: Surya Namaskar A + B, and the first 1/2-2/3 of the standing sequence. Breath, bandhas, Sun Salutations A + B, standing sequence and beyond — we begin to feel the strength, stamina, lightness and flow of the practice. We explore more interesting detailing to further cultivate and refine awareness of self through the body, and work on bettering our understanding of the poses that challenge us like backbends, handstands and other inversions, and deeper forward bends.

Level 2

Rise + Shine

Create Your Day (or Rise + Shine) All Levels – A combination of stretch, breath, core strengthening, slow-flow where you can deepen your awareness of breath and the inner strength of your body, slowing right down to a bit of restorative for integration and health, and a finishing meditation during savasana. A great way to start a day. For all levels.

Join me for a daily dose of physical exercise, stretching, gentle detox and inner awareness into your holiday mix ... with 5 (AM) or 6 (PM) consecutive days of yoga influenced by the teachings of Krishnamacharya, most specifically through the lineages of Ashtanga Vinyasa, Iyengar, and therapeutic yogas. So we breathe, move, slow-flow and workshop in those styles, with a focus on somatics, and an explorative twist.

We explore core strength, tight shoulders, lower back, hips and hamstrings, deepen our understanding of breath, core and alignment, strengthen poses and have fun with exercises and asanas we don’t often get to in drop-in classes. Each class will feature familiar poses and some challenging ones – a great opportunity to explore unfamiliar and exciting territory. All are welcome.

Students not ready for more difficult asanas can remain with easier ones or practice modified versions of the difficult ones.

All levels of practitioner will benefit and be taken care of. All levels are welcome.
